Silk Flowers Prove that in Water, Hope Floats.
Water for Life…and for Lavish Living with Silk Flowers.Jacinda Little

Those of us who love silk flowers for everything that they aren’t (messy, hungry, thirsty) have still expressed an interested in reverting back to the things that their natural predecessors call necessary. Particularly…water.

Trends and standards have proven that flowers floating on water provide sentiments of elegance and sparkle. Beautifully crafted silk flowers floating on water provide the perfect combination of soft color and a reflective quality that’s difficult to copy. They bring an unrivaled ambience to wedding receptions, Bat Mitzvahs, proms, outdoor pool parties, and much more.

Silk Flowers and Water: An Odd, but Harmonious, Couple.

We choose silk flowers because we don’t have to water them, right? Then why on earth, you might ask, would we choose to display them with water anyway? For pure esthetic beauty. Nothing says elegance like delicate blooms hovering over a glistening pool of nature’s most universally adored medium.

When creating a centerpiece or other accent with silk flowers and water, your possibilities are virtually endless. You can choose to use genuine water or opt for artificial acrylic water. The acrylic substitute is often desired by silk flower fans, thanks to its maintenance-free qualities. Water evaporates, can become stagnant, and might leach color from silk flower petals. I would suggest using the real thing for short term applications (weddings, birthday parties), and the acrylic for more permanent fixtures to your décor. Acrylic “water” also comes in handy when the silk flowers you have chosen either refuse to float or refuse to submerge. The acrylic gel will hold them in place…just where you want them.

Floating Silk Flowers in a Backyard Waterscape.

Planning an outdoor party? Have a pool or pond? Imagine the look you could create by floating large blooms atop the surface of the water. Water possesses a natural attractiveness. It signifies life, and humans and animals are instinctually enticed by it. Your guests will be no exception. Floating silk flowers will only add to your body of water’s attraction.

Mingle floating candles with your skimming blooms, and you’ll fashion a waterscape that is not only reflective with light and color, but creates a dreamy, sparkling atmosphere…like a scene straight out of a romance novel. Add champagne, food, and friends, and you’ve got an evening to remember. Or, subtract the friends, and you’ve got a perfect evening for two. Or, dress up your pool with brightly hued, youthful blooms, and you’ve got a totally cool teen pool party.

Silk Flower and Water Centerpieces Become the Center of Attention.

What you’ll need to design breathtaking silk flower and water centerpieces for that oh-so-special occasion:

v Glass bowls, vases, or martini, wine, or brandy glasses

v Water, or an acrylic substitute

v Silk flowers or petals for floating on, or submerging in, the water

v Floating candles (optional)

v Mirrors cut to size, for under, or in the bottom of, the glasses (optional)

v Vase lights or illuminators (optional)

Mirrors make an especially wonderful complement to your silk flower design when candles or vase illuminators are used. The reflections of flowers and glimmering light will leave your guests astounded…especially when you allow them to take your reception or party centerpieces home with them.

Silk Flowers go Nautical.

Once again, I’m taken aback by another creative use for our friend, the silk flower. And again, in true artistic fashion, I’m amazed at the innumerable ways that an imagination can fashion these faux beauties around a fantasy of romance and glistening candlelight.

Whether crafting one décor piece, or numerous pieces for a party or other special event, you can’t go wrong when combining two of nature’s most elegant elements. Silk flowers and water - an odd couple turned perfect match.
