Silk Flowers: Perfect for Mother’s Day.
Silk Flowers are as Steadfast as a Mother’s
Love.
Who was there for you when you skinned your knee, or got stung
by a bee? Who was there to feed both your belly and your
soul? Did she comfort your first broken heart? Or stand tall
when you realized your dreams?
A mother’s love is one of the most unconditional of all loves.
So how better to pay tribute to that love than with a gorgeous
bouquet of silk flowers? For, you see, silk flowers are the
most unconditional of all botanically inclined gifts.
The Story of Mother’s Day.
Celebrated on the second Sunday of May, Mother’s Day was
proposed for many years before its actual recognition. Roots of
the holiday included the honoring of mothers whose sons had
perished in the Civil War, a banding together of mothers to
improve sanitary conditions for Civil War soldiers, and a
movement toward peace through the denouncement of war by
mothers.
Years later, on May 10, 1908, carnations were distributed to
all mothers in an Episcopal church in West Virginia by a
daughter of one the original Mother’s Day visionaries. The
carnations were white - to signify the pure, transparent love
of a mother. This marked the very first unofficial U.S.
Mother’s Day, and also designated carnations as a popular
choice for the celebration of the holiday.
May 9, 1914 saw the declaration, by President Woodrow Wilson,
of Mother’s Day as a national U.S. holiday.
Today, it is considered standard practice for a mother to wear
a red carnation on her left shoulder on Mother’s Day
(hint…hint…as a silk flower gift from her son or daughter). Additionally, it is
traditional for a son or daughter to wear a white
carnation in memory of his or her mother, should she have
passed on.
Why Silk Makes as Much Sense as Your
Mother.
Undoubtedly, your mother has played an integral part in
teaching you about quality, good taste, economics, and
appreciation of beautiful things. So why on earth would you
spend your hard-earned money on an expensive arrangement of
Mother’s Day flowers that will die in 7 days (or fewer)?
Instead, consider gifting that very special lady with silk
stems of her favorite flower, or a silk flower arrangement
designed after her favorite theme or colors, or a silk plant to
accent the place the she calls home. Hanging silk flowers in
baskets also make great gifts. They’ll offer your mother the
beauty of outdoor flowers without the headaches of watering,
feeding, and regulating light.
Silk Flowers for all Mothers.
Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be reserved for your mother. Your
wife is a good candidate for a gift of silk flowers . Your grandmother shouldn’t be overlooked,
either. What about an aunt or sister who has shown the
loving mind-set of a mother? Even your daughter or
daughter-in-law, the mother of your grandchildren, is sure
to appreciate a sign of appreciation from you, in the form
a natural looking silk flower arrangement.
Silk Flowers Keep on Giving.
Your mother will never forget the Mother’s Day when she was
gifted with a lovely arrangement of realistic silk flowers . When the other mothers’ fresh flower
arrangements have withered and died, your mother’s (or
wife’s, or grandmother’s, or daughter’s) silk flower
arrangement will live on. Just like your love for
her.
