Silk Flowers Bring the Beauty of Your Garden into Your Home
Without Watering.

Silk flowers bring the beauty of a flower garden
into your home whatever the season is. Do you love it when your
garden starts to bloom in spring? I know I do. One of my
favorite flowers is the Easter lily. This beautiful flower
announces the arriva of spring. Like most flowers, they don’t
last throughout the summer. Lilies made from silk provide the
beauty of spring all year long.
When you
see that special flower, does it make you think of holiday
celebrations, of picnics in the backyard with family and
friends? The wonderful thing about having a favorite silk
arrangement is that it brings that special memory to your mind
every time you look at it. It's almost like having spring all
year long.
Most people want to visit botanical gardens or the beautiful
garden in their own backyard. If you love these gardens and
flowers so much, why not bring a few of them into your house?
After all, they make beautiful decorative accents. It's pretty
obvious. Real flowers don't last very long, and you have to
spend a lot of time taking care of them. One of the most
wonderful things about silk flowers is that you can put them in
a vase, set them on a shelf, and forget them.
Perhaps you’re even thinking about downsizing lately. Having
those garden parties in the backyard were wonderful when kids
were still young. These days that big yard seems like a white
elephant. Spending all that time keeping your garden pretty is
beginning to wear on your knees. But you know that if you move
to a place without a yard you’re going to miss those flowers
that you love to see and smell. This may be one of the biggest
ways that choosing silk flowers as part of your new decorations
can be a benefit. You can bring the garden you love right into
your new smaller home with silk flowers.
Maybe you could make just a few simple changes. Silk flowers can enhance your home
decor and they require almost no maintenance. Putting a vase
with flowers on the table or on a counter can add vibrant color
to any space. The wonderful thing about silk flowers and plants
is that they share the same variety of colors and patterns as
the natural versions. The benefit is that they last longer and
there are no water spills if the vase tips.
I can just imagine what you're thinking right now. You're
remembering every visit to grandma's house. When you walked in
the door, the first thing you saw was that hideous arrangement
of red and gold silk flowers on her 1970s era fireplace. You
never looked very closely because the flowers attracted dust.
Touching them was not an option. They were about as soft as a
piece of cardboard. Whose idea was it to put velvet birds
sitting in the middle? It's no wonder that most people don't
get very excited about the idea of a silk arrangement in their
home.
Things have changed. The stiff silk flowers that adorned
grandma’s mantelpiece have been replaced by something better.
Silk that is used to make flowers for today's arrangements come
from a finer, softer fabric. Designers use much more attention
to detail and artistry in their arrangements. When placed
side-by-side, even florists have to look twice to see the
difference between the real flower and the silk one. The frayed
petals of the past have given way to quality that is
breathtaking to behold.
Recently, a designer came to my home for a consultation. She
saw the silk arrangement of gardenias in the shiny crystal vase
on my table. She expressed her delight in my green thumb and
leaned over to smell the blossoms. Imagine her surprise when I
told her they were silk!
Think about your favorite flower. What color is it? Is it
red, blue, white, purple? Remember the scent is better than any
perfume you've ever used. What images come to your mind when
you think about that flower? Perhaps you are remembering the
wedding of a best friend, or a summer garden party in the
backyard, or a visit to a botanical garden. Remember stopping
by the side of the road to pick a spray of wildflowers? When I
think of my favorite flower, it brings me back to spring.
Having a silk arrangement of lilies in my home makes it seem
like spring even in the middle of winter.
When it’s time to put away the gardening gloves and pruning
shears, consider silk flowers and
plants. Today’s varieties give nature’s version some stiff
competition.
