Silk Flower Makeover: Spring Fever’s
Remedy
Brighten your Spring Home with Silk Flowers.
Spring fever. We’ve all heard of it. We’ve all claimed to have
it, or have complained of someone who has it and is driving us
crazy talking about it.
But what exactly is spring fever? Believe it or not, medical
professionals define it as one real condition that can present
itself in one of two ways.
The more recognizable spring fever symptoms are increased
energy, restlessness, heightened motivation, and an intense
desire to be outdoors. These symptoms are especially prevalent
in people who suffer from S.A.D., or Seasonal Affective
Disorder. They usually experience extreme lows in the winter
months, and highs in the warmer months. This is their brains’
hormonal reactions to the amount of available daylight.
The other hat that spring fever can wear delivers symptoms that
are exactly the opposite of the high-energy excitement
mentioned above. Spring can also bring feelings of fatigue, low
energy, sleepiness, muscle aches, and headaches. The changes
that your body must endure when the temperature rises include
hormonal fluctuations, blood pressure changes, and more. Quick,
significant temperature changes can make spring fever’s
symptoms even more pronounced.
Every body and brain is unique. Every person reacts to spring
in a different manner. Some folks even report no change in
energy or personality at all. For the rest of us, I’d like to
propose a remedy for whatever symptoms may be ailing you: A
home makeover, including some calming, mood-altering
silk flowers and plants for your dwelling.
A Spring Fever Makeover
Feeling overly energetic? Use that extra energy to spruce up
your home and give it a fresh new look for spring.
Feeling sluggish? Motivate your creative side with new ideas to
welcome spring into your home. The results are sure to increase
you get-up-and-go.
Here are a few suggestions for “springing” up your house:
o Ready that patio or deck for quiet evenings and festive
weekends. Hose off surfaces, replace cushions on outdoor
furniture if necessary, strategically place torches or candles,
add a worry-free arrangement of silk flowers as a focal point
or accent, and use lush silk plants as green backdrops to
create a tropical feel.
o Open the windows. If you don’t need the drapes, mini-blinds,
or other view-blocking elements…get rid of ‘em! Replace them
with lace, sheer, or valance-only window treatments. Welcome
the light and fresh air.
o Cover sofas, lounge chairs, dining room chairs, or outdoor
furniture with slip covers. Light and pastel colors lend a
breezy, carefree spring and summer look to any home.
o Replace heavy areas rugs with those that are easier to clean
and are crafted from lighter textiles. Woven cotton or rattan
floor coverings are great for high-traffic areas because
they’re easy to clean and can be replaced without a huge
investment. They also bring a lighthearted breeze to any
room.
o Replace throw pillows and covers that are crafted from heavy,
wooly, or dark materials with cooler ones. Choose satins,
silks, cottons, or crochets.
o Change your candle and potpourri scents to lighter, more
seasonal varieties. Scents like lilac, linen, or ocean breezes
should replace heavier winter aromas (like pumpkin, vanilla, or
apple pie).
o Love to paint? Or simply love the results? Repaint trim or
walls, baseboards or cabinets. A lighter color will not only
vault you into spring, but will help to maintain that brisk
feeling throughout the entire year.
o Brighten every room, or just one, with an arrangement of
natural-looking silk flowers. Today’s silk flowers and plants
are so eye-catching and realistic, they’re sure to become the
focal point of the room(s) (and draw attention away from the
more undesirable points).
o Hang a wreath covered in spring or summer silk flowers on every door of your home. One on the back
door for intimate friends; one on the front door for
formal visitors and passersby; one on the mud room door to
brighten your own hectic days, and to welcome you into the
home that you have created as a sanctuary from the rest of
the manic world.
What Could be Better than a Makeover?
Whether your spring fever symptoms are those of increased
energy, or of sleep and fatigue, one thing’s for sure - bikini
season will soon arrive.
And it’s not just time for bikini season…it’s time for a bikini
attitude. Strip your home of all of the heavy, dark items that
offer comfort in the winter months, and replace them with the
free-spirited styles of spring. Don’t hide the character of
your home. Flaunt it!
