Silk Flowers Create Colorful Physical Reactions
Manipulate Your Visceral Reactions with Color
If your decorating sense is begging you to stick to a color
theme, there may be a reason. Here, you’ll find descriptions of
the physical sensations you can expect to experience when you
enter a room that is dominated by one particular color.
The amount and shade of the color that you employ will
determine its impact. More, and darker - your reaction is
likely to be more pronounced. Less, and lighter - your reaction
will be dulled. The effects demonstrated below are assuming
that the viewer is entering a room in which the walls and
ceilings are painted a solid, vibrant color.
• Red is an exciting color. It increases blood flow, heart
rate, pulse, and respiration. It will make you feel warm and
excitable. This is the reason that red silk flowers are
celebrated for their ability to convey feeling of romantic
love. On the flip side, some folks say that a red room
instigates feelings of panic…the sensation of being out of
control. Red is definitely not a color for the weak of heart.
It makes good decorating sense in very large rooms, because of
its ability to make inhabitants feel like the walls are closing
in.
• Blue is the ultimate cool color. It conveys feeling of
iciness, and relaxes you like a blue flowing brook might. It
lowers blood pressure, as a walk by the ocean, or a dip in a
deep blue lake would. It also widens, making a room appear
larger. So, use blue if you’re always looking to cool down, if
your daily chaos requires respites of relaxation, and if you
enjoy the peace that water brings.
• No matter how tired or fatigued our body might feel, yellow
will wake it up. When we’re bombarded with yellow, our eyes
take in the brightness, calling for more blood, and causing the
body to go into a quick overdrive. Blood begins to distribute
more quickly, more oxygen is delivered, and a more enlivened
state is experienced. Almost instantly, a person is able to
think and remember more clearly, and reduce nervousness and
depression symptoms.
• Green is nature’s neutral. Because it combines the iciness of
blue with the loudness of yellow, is finds an innate balance
that seems to be contagious. When amid green, the body feels
naturally relaxed, and in a lowered level of consciousness.
Choose green if you’re looking for reduced anxiety, and the
strength and balance to grow.
• Purple has long been considered perfect for royalty, thanks
to its balance. It combines the fire of red with the ice of
blue. It is said to have a silencing effect, because it creates
a balance within the body, like an ambient temperature in a
home would. Purple can help to spark and expand your
imagination, and help to reestablish balance after a bout with
depression.
• Orange strikes a balance between red and yellow, but gives a
feeling of anything but balance. Its combination of hot red
with bright yellow make for the most energetic color available.
Orange is said to feed both heart and liver function, and will
go great lengths in inspiring creativity and making your time
with it zestier and less boring.
• White calms by affecting a feeling of completeness. White is,
after all, the inclusion of all color. It inspires pure living
because we instinctually don’t want to mar its perfection. Use
white when you want freshness, free breathing, clear thinking,
and purity of heart.
Creating your Own Prescription for Color
You might choose to wash your walls in color, or to utilize
that color in more subtle ways - with window treatments or
accessories, like silk flowers arrangements.
If you choose to go the more subtle route, try placing a vase
of red roses or tulips at your bedside to put you in the
mood for love. Or, maybe some yellow daffodils or lilies on your bathroom counter would offer a
pick-me-up during your morning routine. Or, maybe green
silk plants in the dining room, or anywhere else that the
family gathers, will promote peace and tranquility among
family members.
Before choosing a color, really look at it. Note your mind and
body’s reactions…think about how it makes you feel. You may
never look at it the same way again.
There is a reason that your favorite color is your favorite
color. And it’s not just because it looks pretty. You crave the
reaction that you gain from that color.
You love silk flowers and plants. So why not use your favorite silk flowers as a
medium for displaying your favorite color? You just might
find yourself in utopia.
