Silk Flowers put Living in Living Rooms
Living Rooms Adorned with Silk Flowers and Plants: Top Notch
Design
When you think of your living room, what comes to mind? Is it a
place to fold laundry, in which folks must moves piles of jeans
and underwear before sitting? Is it a graveyard for retired
movies and newspapers…a virtual city of stacked entertainment
of yesteryear? Or, is it a labyrinth of misplaced furniture,
making good conversation and relaxation utterly impossible?
If your living room suffers from any of these ailments, I would
like to suggest a simple room reassignment.
It’s time to put the living back into your living
room.
Good Living Room Design, for any Taste
No matter your root decorating delight, a few simple directives
can reinvent your living room:
o Get rid of the clutter. When you try to relax amongst
clutter, you will be sadly disappointed. Use furniture with
drawers and cabinets, hollow ottomans, storage cubes, or trunks
for coffee tables and/or end tables. When you have a place to
stash your stuff, your living room can breathe again.
o If your living room will serve as a multifunctional room,
create zones. If you’ll be viewing television, reading, and
playing board games all in the same room, then appoint each
zone individually. Strategically placed area rugs will
designate each area for its purpose. Pointing groups of
furniture at a focal point, like the television or a fireplace,
will also establish an area for its purpose.
o Match the size and amount of furniture to the size of the
room. Ensure that there is enough seating for your entire
family, and consider any other furniture disposable.
o Entertain the idea of neutral-colored, plain furniture.
Patterns and floral prints create clutter, and can make it
difficult to relax. You can jazz up plain furniture with throws
and pillows, if desired.
o Avoid the furniture store ensemble. You know the ones…for one
low price, you can get a sofa, loveseat, chair, end tables, and
table lamps. If you want a cookie-cutter living room, that’s
fine. Otherwise…I’d advise against it.
o If your taste will hear of nothing different that strict
antiquities, or only modern pieces, that’s fine. Otherwise, mix
it up. Combine your favorite pieces, no matter their style or
era of origin. If you love each one individually, you’re bound
to love them even more when they’re displayed together.
o Use arrangements of silk flowers to flank the fireplace, on the coffee table, on
end tables, or on the fireplace mantle. A dramatic silk
flower arrangement can easily become the focal point of
your living room. Use larger pieces, like topiaries or
silk trees as focal points, or to accent another focal
point. Use silk greens to relax, calm, and invite.
o Provide lamps at chairs or at the ends of sofas for reading.
An overhead ceiling light is great for group projects or board
games, but is never warm, inviting, or romantic. When you
employ lamps, you automatically give your living room the
ability to transform itself.
o Arrange furniture in conversational groups, for good
entertaining. Everyone should have a spot to place their drink
or dessert, within reach. Use a coffee table or end pieces to
accomplish this.
o Try to develop a focal point that is not the television.
Sure…the television is often the main entertainment in the
living room, but why not give something else the spotlight for
awhile? Use a cabinet with front doors to hide the TV. when not
in use. Point furniture toward a picturesque outdoor view, or a
fireplace. Place a stunning painting or print over a fireplace
mantle to draw the eye to that area. Set up the room to
accommodate conversation, rather than endless hours of
television viewing.
Using Your Own Taste to Say, “Welcome”
Your unique style is all your own, and your family and guests
will bear witness to it in your living room. This is your
chance to welcome guests, to bring together your family, and to
offer yourself a haven from the hectic outside world.
Gather inspiration from magazine pages, an internet search, or
from friends’ homes. Cut out pictures, sketch floor plans, or
simply move things around until you feel at home with your
choices.
And don’t forget the silk
flowers for your redesigned living room. You can relax in
knowing that they’re maintenance and worry free. And you can
relish the complements you’ll receive from guests…as they sneak
close-up peaks at those flowers and greens that are just too
beautiful to be real.
