Silk Flowers as Gifts: Fabulous In and
Out
Silk Flowers Make Gift Wrapped Packages as Special as Their
Recipients
Silk flowers have grown. Not literally, but they have grown
in popularity as both personal rewards and as gifts for
the flower lovers in our lives. This leap in popularity is
due, in part, to improvements made in silk flowers and
plants’ quality and realisti c
appearance, and in part to their maintenance-free
features.
Another consumer product that has grown in popularity in recent
decades is the gift bag. Though some can be downright
beguiling, boasting sophisticated designs and eye-catching
adornments, others are simply a tote, chosen because there’s no
time to wrap. There are those folks for whom gift bags will
always be their presentation choice. For the rest of you, read
on for some creative ideas for wrapping up the perfect gift,
with the help of silk flowers.
If You Care Enough to Give the Best, Then Wrap it up
with Good Taste
Choose a quality gift wrap. Nothing says “thrown together” like
a gift that could not be contained by its inferior dressing.
Corners that are worn or broken through are disappointing, at
best. Also, gift wrap from a roll works best. Folded gift wrap
often leaves packages marked with creases and lines of faded
color.
Wrap the gift early enough so that you can enjoy its beauty
within your own home. Trust me, if you put the effort into
this, you’ll want to enjoy it for at least a few days. But
don’t prepare the gift so early that it collects dust. That’s
not an embellishment that your gift’s heir will appreciate.
Use invisible tape to secure the gift wrap. Start by cutting
the wrap so that it’s large enough to go around the package
with a one or two inch overlap, and enough on each end to cover
the sides. Too much paper will make the package appear bulky
and lumpy. Too little will not only look bad, but will leave
gaps and encourage peeks.
Make sure that the main gift wrap seam is on the bottom, and
that ends are folded triangularly and taped neatly.
Now comes the fun part - adorning the top of the package.
Choose ribbon, bows, silk flowers , and other embellishments that not only
complement the design of the wrapping paper, but speak to
the taste of the recipient. Dressing up a gift for a
wedding? Stick to colors that harmonize with the palette
of the ceremony and reception. Giving a gift to a child?
Stick with silk flowers that speak of innocence and youth,
like daisies or other white, pink, or yellow silk flowers.
Imparting a present to the romantic love of your life?
Make the package ripe with mature, grown-up love by
adorning it with red silk roses or tulips. And the
possibilities go on and on…
Attach silk flowers to your gift wrapped package by tucking them
under a ribbon secured around the gift’s midsection. Or,
secure them using invisible tape or hot glue. Avoid using
low-viscosity glue that will saturate the gift wrap and
damage the gift inside.
Place the largest, most attention-grabbing flower in the center
of the mini-arrangement, and use smaller greens or sprays to
bring the periphery down to package level. If using ribbon
around the package, arrange its resulting bow amidst the
flowers to add texture and interest. Nestle floral picks, candy
sticks, a gift card, or other embellishments amid the flowers
if you wish.
Feel free to hint to the contents of the package with
trimmings. If you’re giving cookware, add cooking utensils to
the package decoration. If you’re giving art supplies, weave a
paintbrush into your mini silk flower arrangement. Build
suspense, so that the recipient will be torn between admiring
the beautifully decorated package and ripping it open to get to
the contents!
The Art of Gift Wrapping
Gift wrapping can not only be a good vehicle for showcasing
your creative abilities, but shows the recipient of your gift
that you have invested the time in making it an offering from
your heart. They’ll appreciate the silk flower gift, as well as
the time you’ve invested.
Silk flowers go above and beyond a standard ribbon and bow
because they offer unique, classy, and reusable enjoyment.
Next time you walk into a wedding reception, birthday party, or
anniversary celebration, why not add to the festivities with a
gift trimmed with realistic silk flowers? Why not ditch the
gift bag in favor of something classier?
Your silk flower creation might not steal the show, but it’s
sure to politely borrow the spotlight.
