Silk Roses - The Ultimate in Designer Silk
Flowers.
Silk Roses Communicate More Than
Splendor.
As Gertrude Stein teaches us, "A Rose is a rose is a rose." Few
creations, or the words associated with it, evoke such emotions
as the robust, yet demure, rose. Its history is rich, and its
symbolism pervades every gift, room, and special occasion that
it graces.
Though fresh roses only last for four to
sixteen days, silk roses last for
a lifetime. They live on to convey all of the different
messages that their colors and arrangements send.
Join me to explore the world of the rose . Learn
to use its imagery and symbolism to say what words
cannot..to speak your mind..and your heart.
Roses are as Deep-Rooted as the Love They
Symbolize.
Though roses are known to have grown naturally in the wild, 35
millions years ago, it is believed that the Chinese began to
cultivate roses for their gardens 5,000 years ago.
T he ancient Romans and Greeks associated the rose with their
goddesses of love - Aphrodite and Venus.
Egyptians romanticized the rose. Cleopatra was known to have
rose petals piled knee--high in her bedroom.
Latin people saw the rose as a symbol of confidentiality. It
was used as a sort of "Do Not Disturb" sign outside doors where
secretive dealings were taking place.
In modern times, we celebrate the rose as the official flower
of the United States, as well as the state flower of Iowa,
North Dakota, New York, Georgia, and the District of Columbia.
It is the 5th anniversary flower, and the June birthday flower.
June is the United State's national rose month.
In Celebration of the Rose.
Throughout the United State's history alone, the rose had
fallen centerpiece to merriment and commemoration.
The Tournament of Roses, initiated by Pasadena's Valley Hunt
Club in 1890, was born in celebration of Pasadena's mild winter
weather. Immigrants from colder winter climates were eager to
announce to the world their pleasure with blooming roses and
fruit - while other Americans lay dormant under harsh winter
conditions.
One of the Tournamen's earliest and most enduring attractions
was the Rose Parade, in which flora-covered floats and music
pervaded the streets of Pasadena. Today, Colorado Boulevard is
host to high-tech rose-covered floats, exuberant marchers, and
spirited music, every New Year's Day.
The Rose Bowl, offspring and crowning event of the Tournament
of Roses, was the first-ever post-season college football game
to be held publicly. During the first annual game in 1902,
Stanford University battled The University of Michigan.
Stanford was pummeled too badly to detail, but the good news
is..he Rose Bowl, held every New Year’s Day, hasn't been host
to an empty seat since 1947.
A Rainbow of Roses - A Rainbow of
Sentiments.
Red is the most popular of all rose colors, but an entire
rainbow of the beauties is available. Here, you’ll find each
color's traditional message. Choose for symbolism's sake, or
for the sake of completing an ensemble. Choose one color to
convey a single message, or mix colors to compose a piece of
poetry.
Red roses symbolize passionate love between love interests, or
courage and respect between friends. Dark red goes one step
further by depicting the unawareness of beauty.
Medium pink roses are versatile, telling of elegance, grace,
and refinement: happiness and friendship; gentleness and
femininity; and thanks. Deep pink is indicative of deep
gratitude or appreciation. Light pink is sweet, sympathetic,
and conveys graceful admiration.
Yellow roses are sunny in color and personality. They speak for
joyful affection and gladness; memories and hopefulness of
return.
White roses, not surprisingly, are indicative of the purity and
innocence of young love, humility, reverence, and bridal
charm.
Orange roses depict eagerness and a desire to reveal underlying
passion.
Lavender or purple roses stand for enchantment and love from a
distance, or love at first sight.
Coral roses show desire, blue roses speak of
impossibility, and golden roses congratulate.
How can one rose color summarize your relationship? It doesn't
have to. It can depict your feelings at a particular point in
time. It can be combined with others to write a story. Or, it
can be gifted and displayed in symbolic numbers...
1 rose: Love at first sight in the beginning; and later,
everlasting love
2 roses: Mutual, two-way love
3 roses: For a one-month anniversary
6 roses: Fascination or pain of separation
9 roses: Forever
10 roses: Perfect love
12 roses: Please be mine
13 roses: Forever friends
15 roses: Apology
20 roses: Honest feelings
21 roses: I’m dedicated to you
24 roses: I belong to you
25 roses: Congratulations
36 roses: Headlong in love
40 roses: Authentic love
50 or more roses: Limitless love
Every Rose has its Thorn (Unless it's a Silk
Rose).
When Silk Flowers were
first crafted, they were created using fine silk - the
same silk used to produce luxurious textiles. These
blooms, similar to their natural counterparts, were not
marketed until 800 years ago, and were not brought to the
New World until the early 1800s.
The first artisan to create realistic silk flowers was likely
motivated in the same manner that we are today. When a live
rose dies, all that’s left is a memory. But should your
happiness, affection, or reverence fade? Shouldn’t a gift serve
as lasting décor? Shouldn’t the roses that you choose for your
own décor double as messengers of values and personal
expression?
As many fans of romance will attest, real roses are the perfect
expression of true love. With that in mind, then I say that
silk roses go one step beyond…to a perfect expression of true
and lasting love.
Show your recipient that your expression of admiration,
passion, or congratulation is forever..ot only worthy of one
week of awareness.
Choose silk roses that you feel best express your message, that
complement your home décor, or that speak in a traditional
voice to your loved one. No matter your choice, silk flower arrangements that
contain silk roses will not only beautify your space, but
will speak loudly on behalf of your own heart's
message.
