Take Ownership of your Home Office, with Style.Leigh LaCava
Ultra-Personalized Accessories and Furnishings Work in Your Home Office -. Just Like You.

From part-time consultants to self-made moguls; from freelancers to remote employees, anyone who makes a living at home knows that though dress code might be optional, commitment is not.
Folks choose to work from home for different reasons. It’s convenient, it’s cost-effective, and having a home office makes it easier to balance work with the rest of life. But working from home doesn’t have to feel like cutting back. It can be as fun, luxurious, or productive as you choose.

If you choose to work from home, a home office is a must-have. And one end of the dining room table simply won’t do. A space, no matter how minimal, should have a touch of you - a taste of your essential style - so that you know that it’s your space, apart from the rest of the house and all of the other responsibilities that are contained within its walls.
If a home office contains items that distract you from your goal (like kids’ homework or a pile of household bills), you’re unlikely to be productive. If a home office shares boundaries with a living room or a kitchen, you’ll be distracted by dishes, dusting, or the television. If the décor of a home office is high maintenance, you’ll be distracted by the cleaning of it. The theme? Low maintenance and ability to focus, focus, focus.

If you don’t have a spare room to turn into a home office, designate an out-of-the-way area. Block it with a decorative screen, or choose a quiet corner that no one else is fighting for. Don’t forget about attics and basements. Often, a corner can be cozied-up just for you.
Once you establish your space, make it your own so that you want to spend time there. Feel free to decorate it with no one in mind but yourself. No other family members need to approve this. You don’t need friends’ input, and you don’t need to embellish it to please everyone. This is a space for you alone.

Above being a statement of YOU, your home office should be conducive to productivity. This means incorporating colors that calm your mind and spirit. Paint and wallpaper are low-cost ways to make a space unique. Choose colors that calm and focus you, rather than exciting and distracting you. Follow that with photos or wall hangings that inspire you. Use words or symbols that remind you of your goals.

Choose a type of lighting for your home office that is both soothing and non-distracting. If you prefer natural light, then build your office around a window. If you’re easily distracted by birds, bugs, passing traffic, then hang blinds or park yourself next to a windowless wall. If you like fluorescent lighting because it keeps you alert and focused, hang a fluorescent fixture over your desk. If lamplight eases your eyes and your mind, place a desk lamp on your work area, or a floor lamp near your desk.

Incorporate silk flower arrangements into the décor of your home office. Their low-maintenance nature means that you won’t be distracted with watering, pruning, or changing them. Their vibrant colors and wide array of varieties mean that you can feel free to express yourself with them, and represent all of your best qualities in your work. Their subtle messages remind you that you’re out of that cubicle and into your very own home office. They remind you that you are now exactly where you want to be.
When you commission all of your favorite things to work for you, you can work with motivation and inspiration. Adding silk flowers and silk plants to your home office décor will ensure that before long, business in your home office will be blooming.
