Tropical Silk Flowers - A Sultry Island Feel
Anytime
What comes to mind when you see a bright red hibiscus? Or a
Hawaiian shirt? Or an arrangement of tropical silk flowers? Are you transported
through time and space to a sandy beach, or a flowing
waterfall, or a lush green habitat - far away from the
office, the traffic jam, or the gloomy wretch that is
winter?
For most, just the mention of tropical flowers conjures
feelings of warmth and relaxation. One might reminisce
about a vacation past, or daydream about a steamy retreat.
Though tropical flowers aren’t only native to Hawaii, they are
generally associated with those islands. Here are a few
examples of those tropical beauties, from Hawaii and other
parts of the world.
The Bird of Paradise is not only a bird, it’s also a flower.
The flower was supposedly named after the bird, because of its
resemblance to the bird’s beak and colorful plumage. Bright
yellow, orange, red, and blue tones make this flower one of the
most festive tropicals, and it brings with it a connotation of
joyfulness and is representative of the ninth wedding
anniversary.
Cymbidium Orchids are also known as boat orchids (thanks to
their petals’ hollowed-out appearance), and have stood
for virility, refined beauty, and love for 2,000 years. In
ancient Greece, men would eat these miniature orchids in hopes
of fathering a boy.
Torch Ginger can reach heights of up to twenty feet, and is
named for its flower’s resemblance to a torch. The torches and
stalks are generally red in color, and the plant has
historically been used for spice and medicinal purposes.
Anthurium, or the “Heart of Hawaii”, is a red, pink, or orange
heart-shaped flower. Each flower has a spadix - a vertical
protrusion covered with tiny flowers. Tulip shaped anthuriums
are also available.
Proteas are large flowers, spiny in appearance, that are among
some of the most unique in the world. They offer colors of
yellow, white, pink, and red in random combinations, and are
used to convey feelings of sympathy, love, joy, and general
good wishes.
Dendrobium Orchids are tiny, cascading beauties that symbolize
aristocracy, beauty, and love. They are among some of the most
profusely-growing orchids.
Heliconias somewhat resemble Birds of Paradise in construction.
They are related to the banana, and are also known as Lobster
Claws and Wild Plantains, and are valued for their landscaping
character.
Tuberoses bloom at night, and are also called Bone Flowers.
These white flowers grow in multiplicity on stalks and are
valued for their perfume-making fragrance. They are used to
make Hawaiian leis and were once considered a flower of
grievance in Victorian times.
Tropical Flowers’ Rare Roles
Native peoples of the countries from where
tropical flowers hail used these flowers throughout history, as
gifts to the gods, as offerings to the ocean in exchange for
the best surfing waves, and for much more of the stuff that
legends are made of. Other tropical blooms serve valuable roles
in the balancing of tropical ecosystems. The beauty of these
colorful blooms is only rivaled by their richness of heritage
and unique quality for eye-popping decorating capacity.
Why Silk Makes Perfect Tropical Sense
For those of us who enjoy the bold, bright, and distinctive
blooms of the tropical regions, silk flowers offer a smart and
economical alternative. Tropical flowers can be difficult to
grow, and are subject to specific diseases that can be
difficult to battle. Many tropical flowers, particularly
orchids, are endangered, and cannot be legally obtained from
the wild. Other authentic tropical flowers are necessary for
maintaining a balanced ecosystem where they naturally grow -
harvesting them would devastate the earth on which they (and
we) live.
Do your part for your home and for your earth. When you buy
natural looking silk tropical flowers online, you not only give
your home the gift of exotic, contemporary, simplistic, and
elegant style, but you save the high cost of harvesting and
shipping these far-away beauties.
So, leave the authentic blooms on the islands. Leave more cash
in your wallet. And leave your dramatic decorating desires to
silk tropical flowers - the most versatile and spectacular way
to bring the exotic to your own little
corner.
